Leigh’s college dream

South West Slammers basketballer Leigh Rickwood-Pitt was named Busselton Freight Services Rising Star for January and is in training to resume with the Slammers in the near future.

The 17-year-old said he was working on his strength and core and improving his speed down the court.

The young centre said he loved meeting different people through basketball and learning from a variety of coaches.

“Next year I want to move to Perth and try out for under-20s WA and next April I am going over to America to play in an Australian college scouting team,” he said.

“They take three teams over and we play in an Amateur Athletic Union tournament, with scouts watching, and hopefully I can get a college scholarship.”

Rickwood-Pitt said he was working on expanding his knowledge of basketball as he progressed to the next phase of his basketball career.
