The South West will be well represented at next weekend’s Targa West Rally, with a local team set to compete.

After competing together in 2015 for the first time, drivers Andy van Kann and Madelin Kirkhouse will be teaming up again, taking on two days of the competition.

The Make Smoking History Targa West will see competitors compete on closed-road special stages in and around Perth, Whiteman Park, Kalamunda, Toodyay, Chittering and Bullsbrook.

Both drivers have competed in the event before, but van Kann said they wanted to compete in this event again for “old times’ sake”.

“The roads you get to drive on are gazetted for the event and it’s a great opportunity to get to drive fast,” he said.

“It is just heaven and is extraordinarily fun.”

Dunsborough-based van Kann and Nannup-based Kirkhouse have made their names in the rally circuit and both said they were looking forward to taking on the Targa in van Kann’s Honda Type R rally car, which is prepared in his workshop in Dunsborough.

The Targa West will be held from August 9-12.
