Local star racehorse Amelia’s Jewel headed for first interstate campaign

Busselton racehorse Amelia’s Jewel is on her way to Melbourne to contest the Group 2 Let’s Elope stakes (1400m) at Flemington on September 16. As well as the Stocks Stakes (1600m) two weeks later at Moonee Valley, the racing superstar has also been nominated for the Cox plate in November. Owned by Busselton residents Peter and Annie Walsh, Amelia’s Jewel has spent the past three months resting at her home base Amelia Park. She has seven wins and two seconds from nine starts, with $2.3 million in prize money. ‘The local community is really behind Amelia’s Jewel and we are all excited to see what she can achieve on the east coast,” said owner Peter Walsh. “Amelia’s Jewel is one of the most exciting horses to come out of Western Australia in a long time and for her to be a Busselton girl, makes it even more special.” In August at a ceremony at the Ritz Carlton, Amelia’s Jewel took out the WA Racehorse of the Year Award and she was also named 3YO Racehorse of the Year, with Walsh and his team being named the Leading Breeder for 22/23. “We are looking forward to taking the best on and do Busselton and the South West proud,” Mr Walsh said.
