Federal cash splash for regional airports

VideoLabor leader Bill Shorten has promised a $2.3 billion cancer package if Labor is elected in this year's upcoming federal election during his budget reply speech in Parliament.

A $100 million fund will be established by the Federal Government to improve infrastructure and security at regional Australia’s airports.

The $102.8 million Regional Airports Program will provide grants to airport operators to upgrade facilities to deliver better safety and access.

Regional Services Minister Bridget McKenzie said airports were critical to regional Australia “The Regional Airports Program will ensure airport facilities meet the needs of communities and local industry now and into the future,” she said.

An allocation of $10 million has been made for the next year in the Federal Budget, and the $2.8 million departmental cost will be met within the existing Department of Infrastructure, Regional Development and Cities budget.
