No progress for detectives in Hamelin Bay holiday park assault

Detectives investigating an assault at the Hamelin Bay holiday park last month month continue to appeal for public help to find those responsible. The attack on the 68-year-old man was outside the shower block at the Hamelin Bay holiday park between 9pm and 9.30pm on Thursday, December 28. In their most recent update, the lead detective reported that the investigation was ongoing, and there were no new developments. The victim was sitting on the railings by the shower block when an unknown man left the shower block and verbally accosted the victim before punching him in the face. The victim, who wishes to remain anonymous is said to be recovering from the serious facial injuries incurred in the apparently random assault. The family of the victim have turned to social media to try to reach people who may be able to help, including Facebook posts appealing for witnesses to the violent assault. Police remain keen to locate a witness - a man with a German accent - who sat with the victim shortly before the assault. The victim who has been taking his family on an annual holiday to the park for about 30 years, had only arrived a few hours earlier. “We had pulled in and set up camp, and got everyone settled down, so I went for a shower,” he said. “While waiting for my shower I was shouted at from one of the showers. “The gentleman in there started to abuse me, he accused me of being a paedophile and said I was peeking through the gap in the door.” After his shower the elderly victim dried off and went outside and soon after his attacker emerged and pushed him backwards, causing him to fall heavily and then repeatedly punched him to the face.
