Our athletes shine
Local athletes dominated the Jetty Swim at the weekend, pumping out strong results for the Busselton Swimming Club.
Five BSC swimmers broke into the top 50 for the solo event — with 10 of them in the top 10 across the teenage categories.
A huge win for the team was when 17-year-old Lucinda Jones from Margaret River swam with the elite group and won the 15-19 category in a time of 47min.18sec.
Jones’ training partner Eden McDonald was the fastest Busselton local with a time of 50.58, just one second ahead of teammate Sophie Atkins.
Dustin Gee also performed well, taking second place in the under-15 male solo swim with a time of 51.12, with Spencer Drummond behind him in sixth place.
Ruby McLellan smashed out second place in the female under-15 category with a time of 55.28, slightly ahead of teammates Violet Reynolds and Lily O’Meara.
The club had more than 30 swimmers across the entire event, with all three of its duo teams placing in the top 10.
Busselton Swimming Club head coach Andrew Sexton said it was great to see so many of the club’s swimmers taking part in the event.
“I am incredibly proud of all the club’s swimmers whose hard work paid off,” he said.
