path funding welcomed
The City of Busselton has received $320,000 of State Government funding under the WA Bicycle Network Grant Scheme to be used for a new shared-use path connecting the Wadandi Track at Vasse to the coast along the alignment of the Buayanyup Drain.
The new path will provide the residents of Vasse, Kealy and Abbey with a safer and more convenient connection between the Vasse Business Park, retail hub and the beach.
City of Busselton councillor Ross Paine said he had been advocating for the funding since 2015.
“This provides access to the beach and an ocean amenity for Vasse and it’s a demonstration that these water assets can be used as transport corridors,” he said.
“This is a recreational route but also allows people from Abbey to get to both Vasse Primary and Cape Naturaliste College. Any time you can get a student to school without using a car is a huge win for both the environment and traffic around the schools.”
Works are scheduled to begin next financial year.
