Get ready to flick, scoop and dribble back to the turf because the Busselton Hockey Association will begin its season this weekend.

Both of Busselton’s South West League teams, Wests — Men, and Robins — Women, were diligently working on their fitness separately before phase three of COVID-19 restrictions, with skills and games now starting at Busselton Hockey Stadium.

Busselton Hockey Association junior co-ordinator Kylie Callow said all competitors had returned in good physical shape and were eager to play.

Yesterday marked the beginning of the 2020 season, with the masters playing round one. Tonight from 5pm the junior season will begin, with different age groups scheduled throughout the weekend.

The senior competition begins on Saturday from 1.30pm. The Goldstix and school competitions will start in term three, allowing parents plenty of time to register.

“Because of the disruption of COVID-19 enrolment numbers are low across our competition, with our 6-8 boys taking a particular hit, the senior women are also not faring too well,” Ms Callow said. “If you’d like to give hockey a go, this would truly be a great year to try.”
