RSPCA WA will offer free food, microchipping and worm treatments for Community Action Day

RSPCA WA will offer free supplies and advice to pet owners who may be struggling to help their pets because of the cost of living. The Community Action Day event will be held on November 10 at the Busselton Netball club rooms, Lou Weston Oval from 12pm to 2pm. The day will include free dog health checks and microchipping, free dog and cat food, plus free flea and worm treatments for dogs and cats. RSPCA WA executive manager for Animal and Enforcement Operations Hannah Dreaver said her organisation was seeing an increase in pet owners asking for help during the cost-of-living crisis. “The City of Busselton is in the top five regional areas for cruelty reports, recording a 98 per cent increase between 2022-23,” she said. “Lack of food or vet care are top concerns for pets in the area and it’s hoped this support will ease some pressure on family budgets and help stop small health problems for pets becoming big and expensive ones.” People are welcome to bring sociable, vaccinated dog and puppies along to the event, however due to welfare concerns, cats are not able to attend. Cat advice, food and flea and worm treatments will be available. Registrations for attendance can be made via the RSPCA WA website.
