San Diego outfit to make big splash
San Diego act Fish Out of Water will bring their self-proclaimed styled of “RoPhunk RaeHop” to Settlers Tavern next Friday.
The band blend the genres of rock, funk, reggae, and hip-hop. Their visit to Margaret River marks their return to Settlers, where they will perform their fifth, and most sonically sophisticated, album, Married to the Music.
Growing up together in southern California, cousins Kyle and Brandon Moon started the band drawing on inspiration from 1990s hip-hop kings Snoop Dogg, 2Pac and OutKast before switching to a reggae theme in their college years.
“We just write what comes out of us. They’re expressions of experiences in life straight from the soul,” Brandon said.
The cousins switch between bass and guitar and share duties on vocals and they have added a horn section to the record to provide a jazz element.
They are on stage at 9.30pm.
Entry is free.
