City centre activation and community wellbeing will be combined next month with the launch of Sunrise in the Park.

Sunrise in the Park is the latest initiative from the Building Busselton Town Team.

Building Busselton is a joint project by the City of Busselton’s Town Team Movement, local business owners and community members, which aims to create vibrancy in the CBD.

Free yoga classes will be held in Mitchell Park every Wednesday from February 5 to March 11 as part of the project.

Dru yoga teacher Valerie Frearson-Lane will lead the classes. Dru yoga is a form of yoga based on soft-flowing movements, directed breathing and visualisation.

Ms Frearson-Lane said it was a style designed to be practised by people of all abilities, all fitness levels and all age groups.

“That’s the beauty of dru — it is about mind, body and spirit,” she said.

“Dru accommodates everyone, from beginners to those with physical challenges to the advanced. People can work within their capabilities.”

Building Busselton Town Team members Lisa Skrypichayko encouraged the community to get involved.

“We want to give people a reason to take a moment in the city before starting their busy day,” she said.

“It is an invitation to come together and be exposed to the beautiful environment we live in.

“You will get to know the park, your neighbours, yoga and the city centre.

“Whether it results in people buying a coffee in the CBD after, or a retail worker feeling brighter having done yoga, or having lunch in Mitchell Park, the benefits are good all round for everyone in our CBD workers, community members and visitors.”

Classes will run from 6.30am to 7.15am.

Participants should bring their own mat, water and a towel or light blanket.
