A shark advice has been issued for Peppermint Grove Beach, near Capel, after a 2.65m baleen whale carcass washed ashore.

The decomposing carcass is sitting among the seaweed and was confirmed by Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions officers this morning.

It will continue to act as an attractant that could lure sharks close to the shore so people are urged to take caution and adhere to beach closures advised by local government rangers or Surf Life Saving WA.

If you see a shark, report it to Water Police on 9442 8600.
