Busselton’s Shelter Brewing Co has more than just its idyllic foreshore views to boast about this year after it was labelled one of the best brews at the annual Royal Show Beer Awards. Not only did the South West brewery come home with the trophy for best packaging and design for its Summer Sour, but all of its local drops brought in either gold, silver or bronze medals. A joint venture between the Credaro brothers Jason, Matt, Chris and Mike, the siblings ramped up their beer business 12 months ago with the establishment of their foreshore premises. Head brewer Jason Credaro, pictured, said the results of the Statewide awards were a confirmation the team was creating beer at some of the highest standards. “We want beers that anyone can come in and enjoy. “There’s a beer for everyone. “All the beers managing to pick up medals is a really good indicator of the quality of our products coming out, the recipes are all heading in the right direction from both a flavour and stylistic point of view.” “The branding trophy was a real bonus and further underpins the clean branding direction we went down. “Our use of colours are chosen to represent the region with all the designs being inspired by snapshots from the bay - the pink and turquoise of the Summer Sour is the sunset over the water.” Picking up their first gold medal for their Shelter Lager was also a peak for the team of brothers, being one of the most difficult categories in which to win the top gong. Judged by a panel of 40 experts led by Will Irving, each beer was scrutinised and scored with international judging criteria of appearance, aroma, flavour, technical quality and style. The Perth Royal Beer Awards is part of the Perth Royal Food Awards programme, an initiative of the Royal Agricultural Society of WA celebrating and rewarding exceptional produce and producers from across Australia. Margaret River Brew House, Beer Farm, Eagle Bay Brewing and Cowaramup Brewery also scored well.
