People who have taken up new year’s resolutions are being urged not to push themselves too far, to give themselves the best chance of succeeding.

Anytime Fitness Busselton club manager Jemma Bourchier says one of the key points to maintaining a resolution is not to put too much pressure on yourself straight away.

“It’s important to enjoy what you’re doing and to try not to take on too many things all at once,” she said.

“Some of the most important tips we provide to our members is to find an activity they enjoy doing and to make realistic goals to help them stay on track.” Ms Bourchier said the best way to stay accountable was to let other people know your goals so they could support you.

Body Club Fitness Centre Margaret River owner Jacob Hamm said one of the keys to maintaining a resolution was to allow time to relax and indulge.

“Rome wasn’t built in a day, and a realistic mind knows that things don’t happen overnight,” he said.

“If you are coming from a reasonably unhealthy lifestyle and saying ‘from the first of January I am going to be a vegan and meditate at 5am and cut out alcohol and sugar completely’ people crash.

“There is nothing wrong with having a pizza and a glass of wine every now and again.”
