American actress Kate Walsh, of Grey’s Anatomy and Umbrella Academy fame, will be part of the 2020 CinefestOZ Film Festival’s Industry Program from August 27-28.

Special guest Walsh, pictured, who is presently based in Perth, will join local and national film industry representatives to discuss her career and attracting productions to WA.

“I probably wouldn’t have been able to be a part of the festival if I hadn’t been quarantining in Perth for the past few months, so it’s been surprisingly serendipitous during what’s truly been a crazy time in the world,” Walsh said.

“My goal continues to bring a proper studio to WA that will attract international productions, which can then bolster the economy and job market.

“It’s of the utmost importance to me, especially now, to champion the film and TV industry, and all those creatives involved.”

Walsh is currently campaigning for a mini-hollywood style studio to be built in Perth and she said the facility would help bring feature film production to WA and champion local films.

The State Government is seeking a privately backed proposal to build and operate a world class screen production facility within 20km of the Perth CBD with enough room for further expansion.

Such a facility would need to have studio, digital and post-production capabilities and also meet the requirements for the immersive technologies and gaming industries.

The Government is seeking a proposal that would include a large sounds stage between 2323sqm and 3716sqm alongside about three smaller sound stages, production offices, construction workshops, lock-up storage, 3000sqm of parking and costume, laundry, make-up and hair facilities.

One proposal already getting support is a co-funded City of Fremantle-backed plan to set up a 12000sqm studio in O’Connor.

With more than two decades of experience, Walsh is best known for her role as Dr Addison Montgomery in the drama Grey’s Anatomyand subsequent spin-off Private Practice.

During her session, Walsh will discuss championing the world-class production hub in Perth and her industry experience.
