Scavengers player Dale Mallet made fatherhood a priority during a Busselton Volleyball Association A-grade game against Sugar n Spice, rushing to his wife’s aid as she went into labour.

Mallet was playing a strong game in the first set but had to leave when his wife called, expecting their baby at any minute.

Sugar n Spice took advantage of his departure, with Peter Angell and Wes Combridge hitting some huge spikes and Nick Tyler setting well to give Sugar n Spice the win 25-19 25-18 25-24.

In another A-grade fixture, Notorious Dig were too good for Crazy 88, winning 25-10 25-13 25-19.

Dig’s Ben Burke was producing hard hitting all over the opponents’ paddock ,with teammate Louise Gore setting up some great plays.

Crazy 88’s Oscar Balczun was strong in defence in his team’s losing effort.

Top-of-the-ladder StayHard lost their first match of the season in A-reserves to League of Legends 25-21 25-23 10-16.

Steady play by Bryce Bettenay and Jase Wellstead led the LOL team to victory in a stirring win.

StayHard mother-and-daughter powerhouses Grace and Ella Bassett dominated for their team with many great plays.

Chewblockers were too strong for Cape Naturaliste College Girls in the social game, with Isabella Gusmao’s brilliant serve and strong hitting throughout the match a key to the win.

Her sister Gabby Gusmao played a great game for CNC Girls in a positive display of sibling rivalry, with the final score 25-12 25-12 23-25.
