Sun is setting on sculpture entries

Time is running out for artists to register their interest in next year’s Sculpture by the Bay held in Dunsborough on the long weekend in March.

The Dunsborough Progress Association is accepting expressions of interest until November 26 for the event, which is a highlight of the annual Dunsborough Arts Festival and last year welcomed more than 7000 viewers.

Co-ordinator Vicki Small said Sculpture by the Bay had become a major feature on the the region’s calendar since it began in 2010.

“Entries in the competition present a superb visual display of outdoor sculptural works along our beautiful Dunsborough foreshore every March, showing that you don’t have to go to a big city to produce or see wonderful and innovative first-class artwork,” Ms Small said.

“The event also provides a good venue for artists of outdoor works to have their work seen by the public, and promotes a significant sculpture trail within the Dunsborough area.

“Some of the best entries in past competitions have been purchased by the City of Busselton for permanent public display in Dunsborough.”

Ms Small said the Small Sculpture Prize would make its debut next year and it was already generating a lot of interest.

The category is open to freestanding original small sculptures not bigger than 40cm wide by 40cm deep, with a height of 50cm, and will be exhibited at Christian Fletcher Galleries on Dunn Bay Road.

Other sculptures will be exhibited along the foreshore at the end of Dunn Bay Road.
