Surf swells capes crew
Perfect weather conditions saw hundreds of locals take to the water over the weekend to enjoy the pumping 3m swell.
Surfer Paul Newman told 7News he drove through the night to reach Margaret River the moment restrictions relaxed.
“I’ve been waiting for a few weeks for it to happen, so as soon as it did, I headed straight down,” he said. “It’s just the size and quality of the waves.”
Surfing WA events manager Justin Majeks said the weather had treated locals to an amazing weekend of surfing.
“Pulsing groundswell combined with all- day offshore conditions provided nothing but highlights around this particular part of the WA coastline,” he said.
“An all-star cast was out there navigating heavy drops and heaving pits.”
Former WSL competitor Taj Burrow was carving waves at local breaks in Yallingup on Saturday, as were young surfing sensations Jack Robinson and Jacob Willcox.
Heavy winds are predicted this weekend, with few surfers expected to make the journey down to stay with Capes accommodation providers.
