Geraldton served up big swell for the final State surfing competition last month, with two Yallingup Boardriders members claiming State titles and a place in the State team.

The event, presented by Sun-Smart and Surfing WA, included two days of competition in big waves and challenging conditions.

Yallingup Boardriders junior members took on the conditions without hesitation and came away with four places.

Emma Cattlin, 16, won the under-18 girls State title for the second year in a row, while Mav Wilson, 10, took the under-12s title.

“I am happy to take out back-to-back titles, it’s a good feeling and I can’t wait for the nationals in South Australia,” Emma said.

Other Yallingup surfers, Otis North, 12, and Remy North, 10, also finished on the podium, taking third place in the under-14s and under-12s respectively.

Emma and Otis scored a place on the State team and will take on Australia’s best junior surfers later in the year.

Yallingup Boardriders vice-president Shane Smith said it was great to see such a strong result.

“I was stoked to see the surf on display across all divisions, well done to all YBR groms,” he said.
