Swimmer returns on top

Busselton swimmer Ethan Miles returned to training last week after a trip to Hobart for the 2018 Australian School Sport Swimming Championships.

The Georgiana Molloy Anglican School swimming club member said it was fantastic to represent his club and the State in the squad.

Ethan was also delighted to be named as a captain.

“It was a great experience to race against the best from each State and have the opportunity to carry the flag for WA as well as mentor the younger team members,” he said.

Georgiana Molloy swimming club coach Kate Firth said Ethan was a great young leader and his captaincy was well deserved.

About 54 swimmers representing 40 schools made up the School Sport WA team competing against more than 700 students from all over Australia. Ethan recorded three new personal-best times in the 50m, 100m and 200m butterfly.

Having started competitive swimming just three years ago, he was last year named one of two West Australians to receive a School Sport Australia Sportsmanship Award.

The WA team also had a successful meet, bringing home three silver and five bronze individual medals as well as a gold for the handicap relay.

During their week-long stay in Tasmania, the group was able to experience snow on Mt Wellington as well as an educational excursion to Port Arthur.
