Take part in Meelup Moonrise walk

Busselton Dunsborough Times

Busselton Naturalists Club will hold its annual Meelup Moonrise walk from Dunsborough to Meelup Beach tonight.

The club is encouraging the public to join the 4km walk following the coastal track from the Dunsborough boat ramp past Castle Rock Bay to Meelup.

Participants will start at the Old Dunsborough boat ramp at 5.30pm and there will be a bus leaving from the former Busselton Visitor Centre carpark at 5pm for those based in Busselton to attend. Walkers will be taken back to their cars by the bus or returned to Busselton at the conclusion of the evening.

The cost of the bus is $10 per person from Busselton to Dunsborough and back, or $3 from Meelup back to Dunsborough.

The club will also hold the second iteration of its annual Festival of Busselton bird walks at the Vasse Estuary on Sunday.

With water levels in the estuary at their highest for several years, a large number of waterbirds have been attracted.

Sunday’s excursion will start at 8.30am, with participants encouraged to meet at the gate into the Tuart Forest National Park on Tuart Drive, near the Layman Road roundabout.

Participants must wear enclosed shoes and the excursion is expected to last about three hours. For more information on both events, contact Busselton Naturalists Club president Bernie Masters on 9727 2474 or email bmasters@iinet.net.au.
