League leaders Eaton Boomers were given a run for their money from a never-say-die Busselton on Sunday at Sir Stewart Bovell Park.

Despite Eaton being ahead at every change, the lead went back and forth in a frustrating arm wrestle between top-of-the-ladder Eaton and ninth-placed Busselton.

The game opened with an intensity that was maintained throughout the match.

Boomers forward Jarrod Humphries opened the scoring and counterpart Mitch Kings followed suit shortly after.

Halfway through the first term, Damian Lee got the Magpies on the board. Two more for Eaton from Brandon Jetta and Josh Bowe saw the quarter end with Eaton ahead 4.1 (25) to Busselton’s 2.7 (19).

By half-time the Boomers were ahead by just five points.

There were several near-misses for the Magpies in the third quarter whereas Eaton were more clinical and led by 13 points at the final break.

A late charge by the home team saw the Magpies kick the first two goals of the quarter before Jarrad Fazioli stepped up for the Boomers.

The Boomers are one of only two sides that remain unbeaten after round three.
