Yallingup Galleries opens its 2018 Christmas exhibition on Thursday, December 27, at the Garden Arts Studio on Marrinup Drive.

Four local artists — Sam Broadhurst, Crispin Akerman, Jennifer Hopewell and Maki Horanai — are exhibiting works depicting landscapes of the South West and other West Australian regions.

For the past 10 years Broadhurst has been exploring and discovering the materials used by renaissance artists.

“I have used lapis lazuli in one of the pieces which is what Leonardo da Vinci used for his Virgin Mary,” he said.

“It’s quite expensive and painstaking. This collection took me around a year.”

Akerman breathes life back into the tradition of still life painting. His works are hauntingly real.

Hopewell’s works reflect her passion for the landscape that provides her with endless compositions.

Iconography and symbolism are at the heart of Horanai’s paintings, similar to religious paintings of the High Renaissance. The exhibition runs from 10am-4pm daily until Thursday, January 10.
