Yellow Dog campaign to give Busselton residents paws for thought over four-legged friends who prefer space

The City of Busselton is hoping a new campaign will help dogs who prefer having their own personal space. The Yellow Dog project aims to make dogs who would prefer to be left alone easily identifiable through a yellow bandanna, vest or lead. It is hoped the eye-catching addition will show to other pet owners with more social dogs the animal should be left alone. Dogs could need space for several reasons, such as being anxious, old, grumpy, in training or even unwell. The campaign has already been rolled in the ACT, Europe and the UK. Mayor Phill Cronin said it would help owners and pets alike. “The campaign has been quite successful overseas and the city hopes it will be just as successful here too,” he said. “I am a dog owner myself and understand that much like humans, dogs all have different personalities. “The Yellow Dog campaign is an easy way to show that your dog just needs some space and for other dog owners and the general public to take that into consideration when in close proximity to a dog wearing yellow. “The campaign aims to allow everyone in our community, including yellow dogs, to enjoy our beaches and parks.” Free yellow bandannas and ribbon are available from the City of Busselton office while stocks last.
