A Kimberley education worker has been charged with illegally accessing confidential information after his office was raided by police last month.

Police will allege between October and December the 42-year-old Department of Education administration staff member used a computer at his Kununurra office to access data which was not relevant to his duties.

This information was then allegedly passed on to a third party.

The department referred the potential information breach to police as soon as other staff became aware of it.

On May 18, financial crime squad detectives arrested the 42-year-old and searched both his home and office.

He has been charged with disclosing official secrets and unlawful use of a computer is due to appear in the Kununurra Magistrate’s Court today.
