A crime scene has been established in a NSW south coast town after a masked man was allegedly seen firing shots outside a store.

NSW Police confirmed the incident sparked a siege situation where a man with a long rifle walking near Windang Rd and Acacia St in Windang had discharged shots into the air about 10.40am on Sunday.

The man was arrested and officers are speaking to people who witnessed the alleged incident.

No one is believed to have been injured and there is no threat to the community, police also said.

Road closures are in place and people have been urged to avoid the area.

Traffic is stopped on Windang Bridge, which has been closed.
