A man's body has been found at Lake Parramatta in western Sydney.

Emergency workers were called to the area just before 6.30pm on Monday after reports the man went underwater and didn't come up.

Police said his body was found in the water about 9.30pm after a search involving water police, paramedics and a rescue helicopter.

The man, believed to be 23 years old, has not been formally identified.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.
