Plans have been unveiled for a $15 million expansion of Peter Moyes Anglican Community School in Mindarie that could enable the school to accommodate more than 200 additional students.
The private school has lodged a development application with State planners seeking approval to construct a new building at the southern end of the school grounds that would house seven classrooms.
The proposal also includes the refurbishment of the existing primary school building to improve its functionality and flexibility, including the introduction of modern learning areas, specialist teaching spaces and staff facilities.
The plans also seek to fully enclose two existing outdoor hardcourts and add walls to a third hardcourt, which is already covered by a roof, alongside landscaping improvements across the site.
Peter Moyes Anglican Community School is owned and operated by the Anglican Schools Commission, known as AngliSchools, and is on Elliston Parade in Mindarie.
The school opened in February 2000 and provides education from pre-kindergarten to Year 12.
PMACS currently has 1441 students enrolled at the campus and is approved to accommodate up to 1600 students.
The proposed expansion would increase its student capacity to 1659, supported by associated parking upgrades proposed as part of a separate development application, including a new 76-bay carpark on the northwest corner of the school grounds.
“The proposed development represents a logical and appropriate expansion of an established educational facility that has served the local community for over 25 years,” town planners acting on behalf of AngliSchools said in the development application.
“The proposal responds to the continued population growth occurring throughout Perth’s northern corridor and will enable the school to accommodate additional students while improving the quality, functionality and year-round usability of existing facilities.”
A traffic impact assessment included in the development application said the surrounding road network could continue to operate within acceptable levels during peak periods, despite the potential addition of 218 students.
The report found the additional traffic generated by the proposed increase in student capacity would be “modest” relative to the existing operation of the school and the surrounding school precinct, which also includes Mindarie Senior College and Quinns Baptist College.
Public consultation on the plans is open now through the City of Wanneroo until Thursday, July 30, before the Metro Outer Development Assessment Panel will consider the application.
