Batavia Motor Inne’s listing could finally spell the end for derelict Geraldton motel

The dilapidated Batavia Motor Inne is one step closer to being demolished, with the insolvent owners finally putting the property up for sale.

No one appeared from either Batavia Village Pty Ltd or the City of Greater Geraldton in Geraldton Magistrate’s Court yesterday, when the defunct Singaporean syndicate was listed for a failing to comply with a building order charge.

The liquidator Quigley and Co Corporate Recovery and Insolvency Services yesterday listed the property at 54 Fitzgerald Street, Geraldton, for sale in The West Australian newspaper, inviting offers until July 22.

City chief executive Ross McKim said the City’s understanding was the legal matter had been deferred until after this period.

Yesterday was the third time the hearing had been listed in the City’s second round of legal proceedings against the building’s owners.

Last year they were fined $25,000 and ordered to pay $1395.40 in court costs but made no attempt to pay the fine or comply with the building order.

The City’s offer in January to buy the property for an undisclosed sum was rejected by liquidators.

It was alluded to by Mayor Shane Van Styn via Facebook last month a payment was made to the City of $20,000 to cover a portion of unpaid rates, but Mr McKim declined to confirm or deny the claim.
