Casuals win again as Murchison continues to pick up points in hockey season

The latest round of the Geraldton Hockey Association saw the top teams remain in form while there were tight results in the midfield.

In men’s A-grade Murchison continued to pick up points as they held the second-placed Rovers to a 1-all draw as Daniel Lennard scored for Murchison and Pete Murray for Rovers.

Murchison now sit level on points with Yacht Club and just one behind Australs in fourth having only lost one of their past seven games after being rooted at the bottom for much of the year.

At the other end of the ladder Casuals thrashed Australs 8-0 as Daniel Golding was on the scoresheet again with a double along with Ted Kerr. Lachlan Camerer, Peter Cottle, Will Bateman and Clint Yeate all had singles.

Zac McGowan made sure Saints got past Yacht Club 2-1 scoring both to out do Courtney McLeod’s effort for Yacht Club.

In the women’s A-grade Cardinals were pushed by Murchison but Gemma Dix found the goals yet again to secure a tight 1-nil win and keep their perfect record in tact.

The other match had the Australs overcome the Saints 2-1 as Dale Cleary and Faye Zurnamer scored to keep them in touch two points behind Murchison.

Yacht Club smashed Murchison 10-0 as Jay O’Sullivan picked up a hattrick and Kurt Davey and Ethan Burnett scored doubles to condemn Murchison to their 13th straight loss.

It was closer between the Rovers and Saints as the Rovers won 2-1 to keep in touch with the second-placed Yacht club.

The women’s A-reserve had few goals as Cardinal squeezed past Vets 1-0 thanks to a goal from Bella Thomson.

Murchison and Swans played out a nil-all draw.

Saints Black upset their counterparts Saints Gold 2-1 as Lisa Norris scored twice to hand Gold their first loss of the season and close the gap between the teams to three points.

Yacht Club and Australs were equally matched as Sue Mundy’s effort for Australs was cancelled out by Stacey Jerrard from Yacht Cub in the 1-all draw.
