Dongara has a cyclone evacuation centre at Port Denison

A Cyclone evacuation centre has been opened at the Dongara Recreation Centre in Ridley Street, Port Denison.

It was to have a “soft open” at 1pm and be fully operational by this 5pm today, Saturday April 10.

A City of Greater Geraldton spokesperson said people who do not feel safe at your current location and cannot find another safe place are advised to relocate there from 5pm today.

“If you are not confident in the ability of your home to withstand the storm or have any other related concerns, consider relocating with family or friends where possible,” she said.

“The evacuation centre is available in Dongara as the town is located outside of the cyclone impact zone.

“An evacuation centre in Geraldton will open if necessary and only if it is safe to do so.”

The spokeswoman said while the order to open an evacuation centre sits with the State Government however the City was ready to assist when and if needed.
