Lotterywest grant a $75,000 boost for Geraldton community events

The City of Greater Geraldton has received a $75,000 Lotterywest grant to help fund community events.

Geraldton MLA Lara Dalton presented the grant to mayor Shane Van Styn, who said it would go a long way in putting on popular upcoming events in and around Geraldton.

“Because of this funding we can continue delivering the popular Morning Melodies, host theatre performances and workshops for youth in Mullewa and Walkaway, as well as put on an Australia Day event at the Geraldton Foreshore,” he said.

“Our community is bound to enjoy these performances and events and we thank Lotterywest for getting behind us once again.”

Ms Dalton said the City-run and funded events, such as Australia Day Fireworks, Sundays by the Sea and the popular school holiday programs, were a boon to the community amid pandemic uncertainty.

“The City of Greater Geraldton does a great job in running events for us all to enjoy and share and Lotterywest are on board with us, supporting the City and our people,” she said.

“As we prepare for another year with the uncertainty of COVID 19, it’s good to know City staff are still planning and providing safe and enjoyable community events we can all participate in.”
