The 12-woman team selected to play in the inter-zone competition in Mandurah in February has been announced, with all five leagues in the Northern Zone represented.

Champion pairing Audrey Williamson and Julie McCabe headline the list, along with Geraldton clubmates Fay Sudilowski and Annette Foster, while Northampton’s Eva Watson will lead for Karen Leeman.

The pairings of Linda Prosser and Chris Lewis, Julie Watson and Heather Chatsworthy, and Shirley Pascoe and Karyn Bryan complete the list, with Kaye Burton travelling as a reserve and Lorraine Leeson, Noelene Keeffe and Fiona Panting as standbys.

Quality Geraldton duo Audrey Williamson and Julie McCabe claimed four wins at the annual inter-zone league pairs round robin against the North and Central Midlands, Central West Coastal and Moore Districts last week at Geraldton Bowling Club as women from the local Batavia Bowling League took first and second in the three-day series.

Local side Batavia Red finished with four wins, one loss and 18 rink wins to take top spot ahead of Batavia White with three wins and 16.5 rink wins.

The grass playing surface proved ideal for the local contingent and the region’s best producing quality performances over the three days to continue a decade of success at inter-league and inter-zone round robin level.

Consistency was an issue for some during the five-match tournament but the standard of play was high and competition was even, with no pair undefeated over five matches.

Nominations for the men’s inter-league round robin close this week, with the side to be selected in mid-December before the event runs at Jurien Bay in January.
