Albany eight-ball teams take a clean sweep in A-grade and B-grade of Great Southern Classic

The final of the Great Southern Classic was held at the Katanning Pool Hall, where a fantastic weekend of eight ball was played on May 7 and 8.

Thirteen teams took part in the classic that began on Saturday while on Friday night the CBH Scotch doubles were contested.

Plate winners were Richard Plunkett and David Riach while Scott Cochrane and Amber Marsh finished close behind as runners-up.

On Friday night in the doubles, Kim Michaels and Craig Morton finished as champions ahead of runners-up Damien Benson and Daniel Chilton.

The two days of competition brought to a close the series and the winners were announced.

Albany emerged successful in both the A-grade and B-grade competitions, crowned the champion team.

Jamie Wilkinson took out the overall singles top honours and Frank Clifton secured the B-grade singles championship.

In the A-grade division, Jamie Wilkinson and George Ninte finished on 85 per cent for Albany, Narrogin’s Mark Gooley came in with a percentage of 65 and Jason Daprile was the highest from Katanning with 50 per cent.

In B-grade, Albany’s Frank Clifton finished with top honours on 80 per cent, Narrogin best percentage was from Bill Pickford on 65 and Craig Morton from Katanning ended on 65 per cent.

Albany were the venue winners for both A-grade and B-grade as well.

Albany 1 took out the overall champion team in both the A-grade and B-grade.

Event organiser Rodney Johnson said it was fantastic to have both A-grade and B-grade at the same venue and thanked the Katanning Eight Ball Association for hosting the event as well as CBH for their sponsorship.
