Brookton-Pingelly impressive round one winners in the Upper Great Southern Football League

A brilliant seven goal-haul from Lloyd Padwick guided Brookton-Pingelly to an impressive opening round victory in the Upper Great Southern Football League on Sunday.

The Panthers trailed by 14 points at half-time before a blistering third term helped set up their 36-point victory over Wagin in Wagin.

After only booting three goals in the first half, the Panthers piled on nine goals to one in the third stanza to take a 39-point lead into the last change, making it a 53-point turnaround in the third term.

Both teams only managed one goal each in the last term as the Panthers ran out 13.13 (91) to 8.7 (55) winners.

Padwick started the year off in superb fashion finishing with seven goals while Luke Kirk and Jayden Bootsma kicked two goals each to support Padwick’s haul.

Jacob Sounness, Mitchell White, Jordan Hughes and Jackson Capurso joined Padwick and Kirk in the Panthers’ best players.

Sheldon Lucas kicked three goals for the Bulldogs and was joined in their best by Mark Allington, Kyle Hamersley and Alex Michelon but their side were left to rue a poor third term.

A powerful first half from Kukerin-Dumbleyung helped them defeat Boddington at home by 26 points.

The Cougars kicked seven goals in the first half to lead by 26 points at half-time before the Eagles slotted six goals to five in the second half, but it wasn’t enough as the Cougars prevailed 12.18 (90) to 10.4 (64).

Brad Oldfield kicked four goals in the win and Nathan Phillips added three while Justin Joyce starred and was was well supported by Byron Blevin, Cayden Jones and Ryan Smith.

Jimi Gillespie slotted four goals for the Eagles while Tom Pyke, Alek Oliver and Jarryd Calver were good.

Reigning premiers Williams started their premiership defence off in strong fashion with a 33-point win over Wickepin in the grand final rematch.

The Cats kicked seven goals to two in the second half as they ran out 10.9 (69) to 5.6 (36) winners after leading by just two points at half time.

Matthew Tillbe kicked five goals in the win while Simon Panizza starred in the middle and Brownlow medallist Matt Priddis was also among their best.

Kieran Pirie, Kyle Medcalf and Ryan Smith were in Warriors best.
