Flush with new funding from the Shire of Katanning, the Katanning Scout Group have decked themselves out with new equipment for their upcoming adventures. The scout group secured $1240 as part of a community grant from the Shire to promote the thriving group heading into 2024. The funds were used to buy new compasses, dry bags for tent gear, folding tables and a gas cooker to prepare the group for all their expeditions planned on the horizon. Joey scout leader Ella Maesepp said the equipment upgrades were “critical” for the group as they approached a busy 2024 calendar. “At Katanning Scout Group we do between 12 and 15 weekend camps per year, giving our youth plenty of opportunity to build their practical skills and teamwork, leadership and resilience in a fun and friendly environment,” Ms Maesepp said. “Having the right equipment to be able to do that safely and effectively is critical, so we are very thankful for the Shire of Katanning for providing the funds for these purchases.” The equipment upgrade will prove essential for bold plans the scout group has made for the upcoming season. “Next summer the scouts are going to the Queensland Jamboree as well as a host of events in the first term as well. “Our scouts are going down to Albany to defend our district rafting title in March.” There are still some vacancies for people who are interested in joining the Katanning Scout Group next year.
