The popular Wandecla Races is back for another year in Kojonup on Saturday, with strong crowds from all over the Great Southern expected to attend the country venue.

The annual picnic races, hosted by the Kojonup Polo and Polocrosse Club, will be headlined by the $7500 Kojonup Cup (1770m) that is part of a five-race card.

Gates open at 11am and the event will have on-course tote and bookmakers’ facilities available, bar and canteen facilities, and there will be lots of entertainment throughout the day.

Courtesy buses will leave town at 11.30am and 1pm, and returning buses will be available at 9pm and midnight going back into town.

There is also plenty of camping ground on-course.

Entry is $20 for adults and $5 for children, and under-10s get in free.

Event organiser Beta Eatt said she expected a good turnout on Saturday.

“The word on the street is country racing support is rising so we are expecting to get a great crowd on Saturday,” she said.

“There is plenty of live music and local musicians, and the kids’ activities are free so we are hoping to see lots of kids.

“It’s usually good racing so we are expecting it to be good fields and good racing on Saturday.

“It’s great for the town.

“We get great sponsorship from the locals which helps us out and have courtesy buses to and from town.

“There is lots of camping so we encourage people to stay or catch the bus and not drive.”
