Impressed parents have captured the attention of the Education Minister after penning a letter of gratitude to the Harvey Primary School community.

Parents Darrell and Robyn Higginbottom wrote a heartfelt letter to the teachers at Harvey Primary School in the midst of the pandemic to thank them for their efforts.

“They were doing such as outstanding job even though they were under a lot of pressure,” Mr Higginbottom said.

“They kept the kids calm and prepared some excellent education packs.”

Mr Higginbottom, who has had four children at the school, also sent a letter to the Department of Education to commend the efforts of the teachers and the principal, Jason Romeo.

“Jason is a great principal, when I drop my kids off in the morning I often see him out in the quiet garden with the kids,” Mr Higginbottom said.

“He chats to them and asks them about their weekend and it is great to see. Two of my children have graduated and two are still here and they love it.”

Education Minister Sue Ellery said it was heartening when parents and carers took the time to make positive public statements about their school communities.

“Darrell and Robyn told me about the amazing efforts of the school and that it had always provided an above standard level of teaching, care and support and even more so during the pandemic,” she said.

Ms Ellery wrote to Mr Romeo to congratulate him on the achievement.

“It certainly makes me proud to know Harvey Primary School is an exceptional school with committed leadership, dedicated staff and a supportive school community,” she said.

Mr Romeo said he was humbled by the letter.

“I am really proud of our staff and our community,” he said.

“They went over and above throughout the pandemic and have been doing an amazing job.”
