Cameron Munster has spent years being cheered as the hero of Suncorp Stadium, but the Storm star is bracing for a barrage of boos as he and his teammates prepare to face a Broncos side led by the new kid on the block.

The Storm head to Suncorp Stadium for Friday’s elimination final against a Brisbane team that hasn’t beaten them up there since 2009.

Reece Walsh was just six when that happened, and the Broncos fullback looms large as the man most likely to bring the Storm’s super streak to an end.

Munster and Walsh played together in Queensland’s State of Origin series win, and the veteran playmaker knows the gunslinger from up north is the main danger given he set up 25 tries in just 19 games this season.

Walsh also leads the league with 45 errors but has the confidence to forget about his mistakes knowing that he has the talent and the support from his teammates to bounce back with a big play.

“He’s very exciting to watch and I’ve seen it firsthand playing with him for Queensland,” Munster said.

“He’s fast, very agile and he’s a very confident kid. He’s very brave throwing those high-pressure passes, and nine times out of 10 he’s made them stick.

“He’s obviously going to be in our game plan, but you can’t really coach speed, and he’s got something that not many people have.”

Both teams welcome back a host of stars who missed last week’s game in Brisbane which the Storm won and cost the Broncos the minor premiership.

That was Melbourne’s 14th win in a row over their rivals, but Munster says stats will mean nothing on Friday night.

“I’m sure they know all about the history of how many games we haven’t lost at Suncorp, but it’s only a record,” he said.

“All records are made to be broken so we’ve just got to go out there and play our style of footy.

“We can’t really focus too much on what the records say in the history books, but if we go out and play the style of footy that we know we can play then we can have a really good night.

“If we don’t play the footy that we know we can then it’s going to be a big night for us.

“I wouldn’t say (the record) gives us a mental edge.

“Most of the guys playing for the Broncos over the past couple of years haven’t been around the hard-working Melbourne Storm teams that have won so many times at Suncorp.

“That side is pretty young so I’m sure they wouldn’t know too much about it.”
