Several nurses were injured following an attack at a Sydney hospital, police said.

Officers were at the Prince of Wales hospital on Saturday evening when they were alerted to reports of an assault about 8.30pm.

NSW Police said a patient, a 51-year-old man, reportedly inflicted serious injuries to a nurse’s leg, assaulted to other nurses and a security guard.

A 26-year-old woman, who was attempting to protect a patient, was also assaulted.

A Taser was used to subdue the man who was later arrested and moved to a secure facility inside the Randwick hospital, NSW Police said.

The injured nurse remained in hospital and the other victims were treated at the scene with an investigation launched by the Eastern Beaches Police Area Command.
