In this week’s Manjimup-Bridgetown Times a museum honouring the history of WA’s bushfires and those who fought them could be built in the Lower South West, a new hotel development is on the way to an empty block in the heart of Manjimup and Bridgetown came to life with the return of an iconic community event.

Museum to save fire history

The Lower South West could be home to the State’s first museum honouring the history of WA’s bushfires and firefighting brigades in the near future.

The WA Bush Fire Museum and Heritage Group, which comprises seven members from the Lower South West, is hoping to develop the museum in the region.

The project was discussed at the Bridgetown-Greenbushes Shire Council meeting on Thursday.

Hotel proposal gets the nod

Plans for a new hotel development have been approved for a vacant block in the heart of Manjimup.

The proposed accommodation on the 8423sqm lot on the corner of Rose and Giblett streets would see 78 prefabricated units built by Manjimup Investments, as well as a clubhouse building to include a combined reception, bar and cafe, an indoor swimming pool, gym and small gift shop.

The front of the clubhouse would also include three food vendors and an alfresco dining area.

An iconic community event

The Bridgetown Showgrounds came to life once more as an iconic community event made a historic return at the weekend.

The 132nd Bridgetown Agricultural Show returned to the town on Saturday after last year’s event was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The cancellation was just the second time the event had ever been cancelled in its history — the first was during WWII.
