Emergency services volunteers exchanged uniforms for formal wear as part of the 2020 WA Fire and Emergency Services conference.

On October 16 and 17, 11 fire and emergency services volunteers from Manjimup through to Windy Harbour attended the annual event held at Crown Perth.

Windy Harbour Volunteer Marine Rescue commander Nigel Kelly said the event was a great way for volunteers from different emergency services to improve inter-group relations.

“The conference allows us to see new resources out there, attend seminars and wind down,” he said.

“The gala dinner on the Saturday night presents awards to volunteers and it’s nice to see people get recognised for their input.”

Commander Kelly said the event had been cancelled for a while due to COVID-19, however it was re-announced with a new format about two months ago.

“We had a good representation from people from our region,” he said.

“Whether you’re interested in marine rescue, fire and rescue, SES or any other volunteering organisation, I encourage people to check it out.

“We’re always looking for more volunteers.”
