The Ladies’ Denison Star Classic was centre stage on the Mid West bowling scene last weekend, with a capacity 24 sides competing in a successful event.

The club ran this year’s event over two days with a unique format.

As Denison is installing a new synthetic turf and the process has been delayed because of border closures, only one green is available at the club.

The decision was made to press ahead with the popular event, which is well supported by local bowlers.

The victors were the classy Northampton side of Dion Delamotte, Eva Watson, Pauline Forrester and Val Olman, who showed a liking for the surface, continuing a run of outstanding form from last season to finish clear of a star-studded field, with 15 points and 44 shots.

The side took second in the event last year, with an impressive 38 shots.

The talented Denison combination of Pat Belcher, Marie Eaton, Pat Robins and Gloria Nelson claimed second, with 12 points plus 32.

The two top sides look solid heading into the upcoming pennants season and open and gala days.

Maureen Coulson and her Eaton Bowling Club side ended the weekend in third position with 12 points plus 24 shots, five points ahead of the ultra-consistent Sandra Trenowden and her team from Leeman, who had 12 points plus 17.

The men’s Batavia Classic was due to run at Denison over the weekend. Results from the event were not available at the time of going to press.

The Major Logue Ladies’ fours will run at Geraldton this weekend. Registrations for the Harry Stanton men’s fours are also open.

Last Sunday’s mixed drawn pairs at Geraldton resulted in a clear victory to Terry Williamson and Glen Bryant.

The duo were dominant, finishing the afternoon with eight points plus 21 shots.

Twenty sides competed in the warm conditions after a late flurry of registrations.
