Dumbleyung Tennis Club 2025 Junior Tennis Tournament draws more than 80 young players to the court
More than 80 talented juniors took to the court over the weekend in a fierce contest for the Dumbleyung Tennis Club 2025 Junior Tennis Tournament crown.
The annual competition drew 86 young players from around the Wheatbelt.
During the tournament the sun shone as brightly as the players, making for a top-tier day.
Award-winning tennis coach and tournament-goer Megan Henry said the players “showcased great sportsmanship and friendship”.
Henry said the feedback from the juniors was they really loved being able to play on “real” lawn courts.
Winning pairs Alice Bushell and Adahna Wells, and Zander Wilkie and David Valenta had under-13s success, while Georgie Bushell and Elsie Eyres, and Theo Bignall and Spencer Grace, were impossible to beat in the under-11s category.
The Bushell family were tennis bombshells after Alice and Maggie Bushell scored a win in the under-13s and under-11s singles division, with Georgie a close runner-up to Maggie after a successful doubles game.
The girls were joined by Valenta and Bignall, who also took another top place in singles following their gold in doubles.
Leo Jeffery and Maggie McDougall triumphed among the competition’s youngest in the eight-and-under modified fun format.
The sportsmanship award was bestowed on Noah Diarra and Sophie Mott.
Longtime sponsor Clem Henry was recognised for supporting the junior tournament for 25 years.
