Williams bushfire: Out-of-control blaze now stationary, controlled and contained with fire crews mopping up

An out-of-control bushfire than threatened parts of Minigin and Williams in the Wheatbelt is now controlled and contained, with fire crews mopping up the area on Tuesday.
The bushfire had triggered an alert for people in an area bounded Albany Highway, Williams-Narrogin Highway, Clayton Road, Piesse Street and the Williams townsite.
On Tuesday, the Department of Fire and Emergency Services said there was no longer a threat to lives or homes.
DFES said the bushfire was stationary, contained and controlled with firefighters patrolling and mopping up in the area.
Shire of Williams were managing the fire.
Residents in the area bounded by Macco Feed Drive to the east, Williams-Narrogin Highway to the south and Clayton Road to the west and north in the Shire of Williams were previously told to prepare to evacuate before the alert was downgraded at 4.17pm on Monday.
At the time the blaze was moving in a north-westerly direction and had burnt at least 40ha of land and two water bombers were sent to assist firefighters at the scene, with another 14 fire crews also involved on Monday.
The Williams-Narrogin Highway was also closed between Clayton Road and Macco Feed Drive.
The fire was first reported at 1:48pm on December 29, near Williams-Kondinin Road and Gull Street.
