A young Cuballing team took on last year’s premiers Pingelly 1 in a highly anticipated Narrogin and Districts Netball Association A1 match in round five on Saturday, eventually winning a tight contest 49-35.

After losing to Wagin 1 the previous week, Pingelly were looking for a win while Cuballing were out to continue their rise up the ladder following their first win for the 2021 season against Wickepin last week.

It was a very tight game in the first quarter with the lead swinging goal for goal before Cuballing eventually gained an upper hand in the final minutes to take a four-goal lead, 13-9, into the first break.

The second quarter was also evenly contested with Cuballing outscoring Pingelly by only one goal as the margin grew to five at half time.

Cuballing made changes at half time bringing on their youth who are new to the side and that helped them dominate the third quarter.

The Cuballing defence was crucial in gaining the upper hand with Rosie Anderson essential in centre court stoppages, while Latoya Bolton and Aaliyah Ugle starred in goals to put Cuballing up 38-24 at the end of the third quarter.

Alex Hodges and Leanne Watts steadied for Pingelly in the last term, with another tight contest as each team scored 11 goals, but Cuballing eventually proved too strong handing the reigning premiers their second loss of the season.

In the other A1 matches, Wagin defeated Williams 60-51 while Flames prevailed 43-28 over Wickepin.

Wagin and Flames sit on equal points on top of the standings.
