Two children hospitalised after e-scooter crashes on busy Scarborough street

Two children have been injured after an e-scooter lost control and crashed on a busy suburban street in Perth’s north.

The two 14-year-old boys were riding the scooter up Huntriss Road in Scarborough before they were “thrown onto the roadway” after losing control of it near Boronia Street at about 2.30pm on Sunday.

St John Ambulance responded and the boys were rushed to Perth Children’s Hospital, where they remain being treated for serious but non life-threatening injuries.

WA Police said the incident is being handled by Road Policing Group North officers.

The e-scooter has been seized for examination as part of the investigation, with police to examine all circumstances surrounding the crash, including compliance with applicable road laws and safety requirements.

e-rideables are designed for a single rider and passengers are not permitted under Western Australian road law.

The crash is the latest in a string of crashes involving e-scooters, with a teenager colliding with a ute outside Yanchep Secondary College last Wednesday morning.

Police launched Operation Moorhead earlier this year in an effort to crackdown on young people engaging in dangerous, offensive use of e-rideables.
