Karratha Water Polo Association returned to the water for the first game of 2019 last Thursday evening with the King Bay Krakens having double A-grade women’s and men’s games.

Game one featured a close contest between the Krakens and Barracudas, with Krakens’ Simone Fountain (four goals) and Caitlin Watts (two goals) and Barracuda Kate Kalajzich (three goals) all having great games. Krakens ran out 9-7 winners.

Women’s B-grade saw White narrowly beat Blue 4-2 with Jaye Anderson (two goals), Amy Kroonstuiver (one goal) and Mikayla Wilson starring.

The third women’s game saw the Krakens win strongly against the Pirates 14-3.

Simone Fountain and Ebony Hennessy dominated, sharing 14 goals between them, and Danielle Smith (two goals) starring for the Pirates.

The men’s A-grade game saw the Cudas narrowly beat the Krakens 3-2 with Cuda Nigel Kroonstuiver and Kraken David Rigby competing hard all evening with a goal each.

Paul Richardson continued his strong form in the goals for the Cudas. In the men’s B-grade, the Cudas unfortunately forfeited to the Pirates because of insufficient players.

The night’s final game saw the Krakens take advantage of a depleted Pirates outfit and win 12-4, with David Rigby doing most of the damage with five goals, well supported by captain Byron Newbold with two goals and Sebb Newbold with one goal.

Tryouts are at the Leisureplex on Thursdays after 6pm.

Casual memberships are available for three games at $10 per game with plenty of capacity in the women’s and men’s B-grade competitions.

This Saturday the KWPA will hold its third consecutive H2O Polo at the Island event at Hearson’s Cove from 10am-2pm.

Everyone is welcome to celebrate Australia Day and play some social water polo.
