Home and Away Coral Coast episodes filmed at Ningaloo, Coral Bay, Yardie Creek and Exmouth air this week
We all know it’s the most beautiful place to live. But now the world is catching up to just how spectacular our region is, as Home and Away’s long-awaited WA episodes hit screens this week.
The popular soap, which airs both in Australia and internationally, filmed in WA’s Coral Coast last October, shooting at some of area’s spectacular spots including Ningaloo Coast World Heritage Area, Coral Bay, the dramatic landscapes of Charles Knife Canyon, plus Yardie Creek, Turquoise Bay and Shot Hole Canyon in Cape Range National Park.
Bullara Station, outside Exmouth, was used as the main shooting location, with the camping destination housing 38 cast and crew, who travelled west to shoot the special episodes.
“It’s looking beautiful,” series star Bonnie Sveen said.
She is returning to reprise her role as Ricky, alongside former Home and Away co-star Stephen Peacocke, who played her on-screen partner Brax for several years before their characters both famously left the show in 2016.
Brax and Ricky are both front and centre in the WA-filmed episodes, which see audiences re-introduced to the beloved couple a decade on.
For Sveen, filming on the Coral Coast was a dream, with the location at Yardie Creek a particular highlight.
“Luckily we got quite a big amount of time to film there, and a few hours on the Yardie Creek tour boat,” Sveen said.
“We got lots of time to really take in the gorgeous red limestone cliffs; we saw plenty of those black-footed rock wallabies, which was so amazing.
“Being from Tassie, to get to see these rare, precious native wildlife on the other side of the country was amazing — you couldn’t help but imagine what life must have been like for the Thalanyji people for the thousands of years before colonisation.
“Just how serene and magical, and how proud that mob must be of their land.”
Production was brought to WA with the assistance of Tourism WA, who worked with the show’s executive producer Julie McGauran to make their storylines a possibility.
“We found (the whole experience of shooting on the Coral Coast) really easy, and it was really easy to travel between locations as well. We’d go back in a heartbeat,” McGauran said.
She hopes audiences enjoy seeing a different part of Australia to the sunny shores of Summer Bay they may be used to.
“I really hope audiences love seeing how incredibly beautiful WA is. I’m sure they will love seeing Brax and Ricky again, too,” she said.
Home and Away airs Mon-Thurs at 7pm on Seven and 7Plus.
