Gold Coast plane crash: Two men dead after crash at Heck Field, Jabobs Well

Horror new details have been released after a plane crashed on the Gold Coast, confirming two men from different states have died.

The crash occurred around 5.55am on Tuesday, with Queensland Police and Queensland Ambulance Service quickly racing to Heck Field, Jacobs Well.

Queensland Police confirmed two people were on board the craft when it crashed.

“Investigations have identified the pilot to be a 73-year-old male from Beenleigh. The next of kin have been advised and are with police at this point in time,” Gold Coast Police District Superintendent Brett Jackson said.

“Out of respect to the family, we won’t provide any further details in relation to the identity of that pilot until they’ve had time to ... understand,” he said.

Supt. Jackson said the passenger was a man from Sydney, not revealing his age.

“We can’t confirm if next of kin have been identified and spoken to at this point in time, so we will wait until we can confirm that before we release further details of that person’s identity,” he said.

Describing the crash, Supt. Jackson said it was “so significant that both occupants were unable to survive”.

Police say they are not yet clear on the reason for the flight from the private airfield, but confirmed flight records show that the two men were travelling to a town near Tamworth in NSW.

The plane caught fire after the crash, with the wreckage remaining on fire for some time before authorities reached the scene.

7NEWS reporter Georgia Costi described the remains of the light plane as a “smouldering wreck”.

“It is almost unrecognisable that that was once a light plane. It is a smouldering wreck,” she said from the scene.
